Risk and Compliance Lawyer
Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, a leading international law firm, is seeking a Risk and Compliance Lawyer to join its New York office. This role is integral to the firm's Legal Department, which manages risk exposure and provides advice on various legal and compliance issues. The firm operates globally, offering comprehensive services to national and multinational corporations, financial institutions, and governments.
As a Risk and Compliance Lawyer, you will advise the partnership on business acceptance matters, including conflicts of interest, confidentiality, reputational risk, and sanctions issues. Your responsibilities will involve conducting due diligence and reputational risk assessments of new clients and matters, assisting in resolving conflicts, and ensuring compliance with anti-money laundering regulations. You will also review client engagement letters and outside counsel guidelines, and provide guidance on various ethics and regulatory compliance queries.
The ideal candidate will hold a law degree and be admitted to practice law in the U.S. A minimum of four years' experience as a qualified lawyer within a leading international law firm is preferred. Experience in compliance, conflicts, risk management, or business acceptance departments is advantageous. Strong analytical skills, excellent drafting abilities, and the capacity to provide clear and commercial advice on complex issues are essential. The role requires a high level of confidentiality, integrity, and professionalism.
Compensation for this position ranges from $165,000 to $190,000 annually.
