Herbert Smith Freehills is seeking a Resource Manager to join their Human Resources team in Melbourne or Sydney on a 12-month maximum term contract. This role involves delivering expert work allocation advice to two national legal practice groups: Employment, Industrial Relations & Safety, and Competition, Regulation & Trade. The Resource Manager will balance the needs of clients and the business with the career aspirations and wellbeing of the firm's people.

Key responsibilities include solving complex work allocation problems, anticipating business challenges, and advising stakeholders on solutions and preventative measures. The role also involves maintaining a broad understanding of supply and demand needs across the global firm, driving mobility where possible, and optimizing work allocation. Additionally, the Resource Manager will build relationships with associates and trainees to understand their career objectives and discuss capacity and utilization issues.

To be successful in this role, candidates should have prior experience at the Manager level within a Resource Management function, ideally within a large professional services or legal environment. Demonstrable experience in building strategic relationships at all levels, outstanding communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills with the ability to influence senior stakeholders, and the ability to understand and analyze utilization data are essential. Proficiency in IT skills and experience working with resource management software are highly desirable.

Compensation for this role is competitive, with a salary range of $150,000 to $175,000 per year.
