Research, Audio Expertise
As a Researcher specializing in Audio at Thinking Machines Lab, you will be at the forefront of developing advanced audio-based machine learning models. This role is integral to our mission of creating AI systems that facilitate more natural and efficient human-AI interactions. You will collaborate with a team of esteemed researchers and engineers dedicated to pushing the boundaries of audio AI capabilities.
Your primary responsibilities will include leading research projects focused on audio training, low-latency inference, and enhancing conversational responsiveness. You will design and train large-scale models that natively support audio input and output, investigate scaling behaviors related to data, model size, and computational efficiency, and build and maintain audio data pipelines for training and evaluation purposes. Additionally, you will work closely with data and infrastructure teams to scale audio training efficiently across distributed systems and contribute to the broader AI community by publishing and presenting your research findings.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong ability to design, execute, and analyze experiments with empirical rigor. A solid understanding of machine learning fundamentals, large-scale training, and distributed computing environments is essential. Proficiency in Python and experience with deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or JAX are required. A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Physics, Mathematics, or a related field is necessary, along with clear communication skills to articulate complex technical concepts effectively.
Preferred qualifications include a strong grasp of probability, statistics, and machine learning fundamentals, experience with real-time inference and streaming architectures, prior experience in training or evaluating large-scale audio or multimodal models, and a track record of publications or open-source contributions in related areas. A PhD in a relevant discipline or equivalent industry research experience is also desirable.
Thinking Machines Lab offers a competitive compensation package, with an expected annual salary range of $350,000 to $475,000, depending on background, skills, and experience. Benefits include generous health, dental, and vision coverage, unlimited paid time off, paid parental leave, and relocation support as needed. We also sponsor visas and are committed to working through the visa process with qualified candidates.
