Product Manager, Platform

Astra is seeking a Product Manager to enhance its platform layer, focusing on APIs, developer experience, and foundational infrastructure. In this role, you will be responsible for shaping how customers interact with Astra, configuring the platform, and ensuring it scales effectively for advanced users. Daily tasks will involve collaborating with the Leadership Team and other product members, as well as working closely with engineering and go-to-market teams. The ideal candidate should possess skills in platform architecture, API design, and a strong understanding of developer experience challenges.

Key responsibilities include defining and maintaining Astra's API contract philosophy, including versioning, backward compatibility, deprecation policies, and schema design principles. You will write detailed platform specifications for engineering, shape the platform roadmap by balancing foundational investments with customer-facing features, and conduct technical discovery with sophisticated customers to identify platform gaps and extensibility needs. Additionally, you will partner with engineering to review API design, maintain developer ergonomics standards, and translate customer feedback into actionable platform requirements.

The role requires 6+ years of product management experience, with at least 3 years building developer-facing platform or API products at a technical infrastructure company. Deep expertise in API design, including REST, webhooks, and event-driven architecture, is essential. Experience owning a platform roadmap encompassing authentication, configuration, extensibility, and observability layers is required. Strong understanding of creating developer lock-in through experience, ability to analyze complex system trade-offs, and exceptional written communication skills for producing detailed platform specifications are also necessary.

Compensation includes a salary range of $160,000 to $220,000 per year, with equity options.
