Principal Thermal Engineer
Graphcore is seeking a Principal Thermal Engineer to join our team in Austin, Texas. In this senior technical role, you will be instrumental in delivering complex AI data center hardware solutions, ensuring optimal thermal performance and compliance with all relevant technical specifications. Your expertise will contribute to the development of high-performance and reliable server cooling systems, focusing on direct liquid cooling (DLC) technologies.
As a Principal Thermal Engineer, you will lead the design and development of liquid cooling solutions, including conceptualization, prototyping, simulation, validation, and optimization of heat sinks, cold plates, and other liquid cooling components. You will collaborate closely with system architects, chip and board designers, and software/firmware engineers to integrate these solutions into our server products. Additionally, you will work with ODM vendors to manage product thermal specifications, development schedules, and ensure that products meet specification, cost, and quality goals.
The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, with a minimum of 10 years of experience in server thermal design, including expertise in thermal and acoustics as they relate to server products. Proficiency in thermal simulations and analyses using industry-standard software (e.g., FlowTherm, ANSYS, COMSOL) is essential. A strong understanding of thermal fluid dynamics, heat transfer, microprocessor architecture, and system-level thermal design focusing on fan and heatsink technology is required. Excellent communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and the capacity to work both independently and as part of a team are also crucial.
