Principal Engineer, Storage
CoreWeave is seeking a Principal Engineer to lead the design, development, and operation of the data plane for its high-performance AI storage platform. This role involves creating reliable, scalable, and high-throughput storage solutions that support some of the world's most innovative AI workloads. The Principal Engineer will collaborate closely with teams across infrastructure, compute, and platform to ensure seamless scaling and optimal performance of storage services.
Key responsibilities include designing and implementing a highly scalable multi-tenant control plane to meet CoreWeave's expanding AI storage and cloud infrastructure needs. The role also involves developing exabyte-scale, S3-compatible object storage and distributed file systems, integrating dedicated storage clusters into diverse customer environments. The engineer will work with technologies such as RDMA, GPU Direct Storage, RoCE, InfiniBand, SPDK, and distributed filesystems to optimize storage performance and efficiency. Additionally, the position requires improving the reliability, durability, and observability of the storage stack, collaborating with operations teams to monitor and optimize storage systems, and mentoring other engineers on best practices in building distributed, high-performance systems.
The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, along with 8–10+ years of experience in storage systems engineering. Strong hands-on experience with object storage, block storage, or distributed filesystems in production environments is essential. Proficiency in systems programming languages such as Go, C, or Rust is required, as well as a solid understanding of cloud-native infrastructure, Kubernetes, and scalable system architecture. The candidate should have strong debugging and problem-solving skills in distributed, high-performance environments and be an effective communicator capable of collaborating across teams. Familiarity with the trade-offs between HDD and SSD-based storage systems is also important.
The base salary range for this role is $206,000 to $303,000, determined based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and market location. In addition to the base salary, the total rewards package includes a discretionary bonus, equity awards, and a comprehensive benefits program. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance fully paid by CoreWeave, company-paid life insurance, voluntary supplemental life insurance, short and long-term disability insurance, flexible spending and health savings accounts, tuition reimbursement, participation in the Employee Stock Purchase Program (ESPP), mental wellness benefits, family-forming support, paid parental leave, flexible childcare support, a 401(k) plan with a generous employer match, flexible PTO, catered lunches, a casual work environment, and a culture focused on innovative disruption.
