As a Principal Engineer at Intercom, you will lead the definition and execution of key strategic initiatives within the engineering organization. This role involves both back-end and front-end development, working closely with designers, product managers, researchers, and data analysts to deliver impactful solutions. You will also play a pivotal role in coaching and mentoring other engineers, partnering with Group Engineering Managers on technical strategy and leadership.

Your primary responsibilities will include driving key strategic projects with autonomy, providing assessments of project progress, risks, and challenges to guide resource allocation and prioritization. You will contribute to our technical architecture to ensure scalability and availability, participate in all phases of software development from ideation to implementation, and utilize industry-leading tools to enhance development efficiency. Additionally, you will actively engage in hiring, mentoring, and the career development of other engineers, while raising the bar for technical standards, performance, reliability, and operational excellence.

The ideal candidate will have significant experience in building SaaS products, demonstrating a substantial impact on product development and team dynamics. Deep knowledge of a high-level programming language, such as Ruby, Python, or Perl, is essential, along with experience in distributed systems. A minimum of two years as the primary technical leader for a team is required, as well as a proven track record of collaborating directly with technical leaders, product teams, and designers to deliver value to customers or users.
