Paralegal Intern/Volunteer
The Paralegal Intern/Volunteer role at the State of Arizona Attorney General's Office provides an opportunity for students and aspiring professionals to gain hands-on experience supporting attorneys in a government legal setting. Interns will become part of a dynamic legal team dedicated to serving the citizens of Arizona by upholding the law and protecting public interest. The position is designed for the summer and fall of 2026 and offers a unique chance to observe the operations of one of the state's most prominent legal departments.
Key responsibilities include conducting legal research, drafting documents, reviewing case files, and assisting attorneys with evidentiary and discovery requests. Interns may also participate in the preparation of trial materials, help review statutes and regulations, and provide organizational support for case management. The day-to-day work environment is collaborative, fast-paced, and frequently involves multiple projects with competing deadlines.
Candidates should be detail-oriented, organized, and able to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally. Preferred qualifications include current enrollment in a paralegal studies program or a related field, strong research and analytical skills, proficiency with office and legal research software, and the ability to work independently under supervision. Prior exposure to legal administrative tasks or volunteer experience in a legal or governmental setting is advantageous.
While the position is unpaid, the internship provides significant educational and professional development benefits. Participants gain valuable, real-world legal experience, build their professional networks, and strengthen their resumes for future career opportunities, potentially including public service or law school admissions. Interns may also be eligible for academic credit, subject to approval by their academic institutions.
