The Math Expert (SME) - Freelance Project is a remote consulting role focused on AI training data projects for leading AI model builders and research enterprises. The consultant will define success criteria, review outputs, and provide precise mathematical guidance to improve quality and consistency, contributing to the delivery of domain-specific annotated datasets, problem sets, and mathematical proofs that meet rigorous technical and academic standards. Engagements are project-based with defined deliverables, milestones, and completion dates.

Key responsibilities include defining quality success metrics for pure mathematics datasets, developing project-specific SOPs, QA rubrics, and reference materials, reviewing project outputs for correctness and coherence, conducting structured QA passes, providing remediation notes, advising on tools and workflows, handling specification changes and edge cases, and curating libraries of proof samples and annotated datasets.

The role requires an advanced academic or professional background in Pure Mathematics, with 5+ years of experience in formal mathematical reasoning, proof development, or advanced theoretical instruction. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to enforce high standards of mathematical rigor, possess strong communication skills to explain complex reasoning, have experience producing or reviewing mathematical documentation, and exhibit exceptional attention to detail and consistency. Fluency in written and spoken English, with precise command of mathematical language and notation, is essential.

Compensation ranges from $25 to $100 per hour, determined based on experience, expertise, and geographic location. As a contractor, the consultant is expected to supply a secure computer and high-speed internet; company-sponsored benefits such as health insurance and PTO do not apply.
