Machine Learning Engineer - Inference Platform (AU remote)

As a Machine Learning Engineer at Canva, you will join the Inference Platform team within the Generative AI Supergroup. This team is dedicated to building scalable infrastructure and tools that power machine learning across Canva, ensuring that AI models are deployed, served, and optimized efficiently at scale. Your work will directly impact the delivery of real-time AI features, enhancing the creative experience for Canva's global user base.

In this role, you will design, build, and maintain systems for serving machine learning models in production. Your responsibilities include optimizing inference performance concerning latency, throughput, and cost efficiency. Collaboration with ML researchers and engineers is essential to productionize models, and you will implement monitoring, logging, and alerting mechanisms to ensure system reliability. Additionally, you will contribute to platform tooling that improves developer experience and ML workflows, identify opportunities for infrastructure improvements, and provide on-call support for the services managed by the team.

The ideal candidate is passionate about building reliable, scalable systems and is excited to work at the intersection of machine learning and infrastructure. You should have experience with backend systems and some exposure to deploying or supporting machine learning models in production.
