Legal Counsel
H&M Group is seeking a Legal Counsel to provide comprehensive legal support across Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, and Vietnam. This role involves advising on regulatory matters, negotiating and reviewing agreements, and ensuring compliance with global legal standards. The Legal Counsel will collaborate closely with various internal stakeholders and external parties, including landlords, local authorities, and government agencies, to secure optimal legal and commercial outcomes.
Key responsibilities include negotiating, drafting, and reviewing various agreements, such as lease and tenancy agreements for H&M Group stores, from a pro-business perspective with minimal risk exposure. The Legal Counsel will conduct judicial inquiries, due diligence, and risk assessments, proactively advising on legal issues and disputes related to expansion and consolidation, and handling and settling disputes. Additional duties involve supporting tendering processes, assisting Sales Market Controllers and Account Managers in corporate matters, setting and implementing routines for contract execution and administration, and providing support on marketplace and partnership opportunities for online and digital projects.
The ideal candidate will have 5 to 8 years of law firm and in-house legal experience, with admission to the Bar in the relevant jurisdiction or equivalent legal qualification. Experience in an in-house legal function within a fast-paced, dynamic environment, particularly in a consumer business with digital and/or leasing experience, is preferred. Strong communication skills are essential, with the ability to translate complex legal requirements into clear, practical guidance and confidently present to senior stakeholders. The candidate should be comfortable with decision-making in ambiguous circumstances and under tight timelines, possess a strong understanding of risk assessment, and be able to articulate associated consequences to decision-makers.
