The Legal Clerk I position in the Court Listings Unit of the Municipal Court's Traffic Division involves processing legal documents for docketing purposes. This entry-level role requires constant interaction with legal documents and entails summarizing pertinent information into dockets, which may serve as a basis for legal activities by counsel and the judiciary. Work is performed under direct supervision, following clearly defined rules and procedures.

Key responsibilities include processing continuance requests submitted by court users, examining legal instruments to determine information for posting to dockets, and abstracting and recording filing dates and types of legal instruments. The role also involves returning incorrect documents for appropriate action, processing documents in accordance with standard procedures, and maintaining a court record filing system with adequate controls and access restrictions.

Required qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent and one to two years of progressively responsible clerical experience processing legal instruments and documents. Equivalent combinations of training and experience that provide the necessary skills to perform the essential functions of the class may substitute for the listed qualifications. Successful completion of a panel review and/or interview process, satisfactory clearance of a criminal background investigation, and the ability to perform the essential functions of the position are also required. This is an on-site position; remote work is not available.
