Legal Administrative Assistant - Transactions
DLA Piper, a global law firm, is seeking a Legal Administrative Assistant to support its Transactions team in Chicago. This role is integral to the firm's strategic initiatives, providing comprehensive administrative and clerical support to attorneys and legal teams. The position requires a high level of organization, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
Key responsibilities include drafting, editing, and proofreading legal documents, communications, and presentations to ensure accuracy. The assistant will oversee the maintenance and organization of electronic and paper filing systems within the firm's document management system, ensuring all work products are easily accessible and up to date. Collaboration with other Legal Administrative Assistants and Legal Executive Assistants is essential to complete complex projects and provide administrative support to assigned attorneys. The role also involves organizing and monitoring assignments within the firm's workflow tool, ensuring that administrative tasks are properly allocated and completed on time. Additionally, the assistant will oversee billing matters, including approval forms and collaboration correspondence, ensuring prebills are processed accurately and timely, and serving as a liaison between attorneys and the Billing Department.
Candidates should possess a high school diploma or GED, with a preference for a Bachelor's Degree in Legal Studies, Business Administration, or a related field. A minimum of two years' experience working in a legal setting under the supervision of a licensed attorney or office administrator is required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office products and legal software such as iManage, Aderant, DocXTools, and Innova is essential. The ability to adapt to application upgrades and the use of AI-powered tools for document production, review, and case research is also important. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are necessary, along with the ability to work under pressure and manage competing demands in a fast-paced environment.
The compensation for this position ranges from $35.09 to $47.79 per hour, depending on the candidate's geographic market location. Non-exempt positions are paid on an hourly basis and are eligible for overtime in accordance with applicable laws.
