Lead Software Engineer, Back End - L5 (Bangkok based - Relocation provided)
Agoda is seeking a Lead Software Engineer, Back End - L5, to join our dynamic team in Bangkok, Thailand. As a key member of our Back End Engineering department, you will be instrumental in developing scalable, fault-tolerant systems and APIs that power our core business operations, including inventory management, pricing, customer data, and booking systems. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a global travel platform that connects millions of users with destinations worldwide.
In this position, you will architect and develop highly scalable, mission-critical back-end systems, taking ownership of significant portions of Agoda's platform from conceptualization to implementation. Your responsibilities will include writing exemplary code, providing hands-on technical leadership to a team of over 40 engineers, and leading large-scale cross-team initiatives to enhance service quality and technical design. Additionally, you will drive organization-wide excellence in observability, testing, debugging, and software quality through strong engineering fundamentals and data-informed decisions.
The ideal candidate will have over 10 years of experience in software engineering, with deep hands-on technical expertise and strong architectural leadership. Proficiency in back-end programming languages such as Kotlin, Scala, or Java is essential. You should have a proven track record of designing and evolving architecture across multiple teams or critical system domains, as well as experience owning production services end-to-end, including design, development, deployment, monitoring, and long-term evolution. Strong communication skills are required to effectively convey complex technical details and trade-offs to stakeholders at all levels.
