IP Counsel
Roblox is seeking an experienced Intellectual Property (IP) Counsel to join its Legal and Advocacy team in San Mateo, California. This role involves advising and collaborating with various business units on a wide range of IP matters, including enforcement, protection, intermediary liability, copyright, and trade secrets. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in IP law, particularly within the technology sector, and a keen interest in emerging technologies.
Key responsibilities include managing active IP disputes from start to finish, partnering with internal teams and external counsel on case strategy, negotiations, and litigation support. The role also involves assessing new off-platform infringement reports, providing enforcement recommendations, drafting cease-and-desist letters, DMCA takedown notices, and platform-specific IP complaints, and overseeing the IP notice-and-takedown program. Additionally, the IP Counsel will drive on-platform enforcement initiatives, advise on platform liability issues, build and update playbooks and policies, support initiatives to protect hard IP, provide IP training to cross-functional partners, and stay updated on relevant laws and industry standards.
Candidates should have at least 5 years of relevant legal experience, preferably combining law firm and in-house experience at a consumer-facing technology company. Active membership in at least one U.S. state bar is required. A strong working knowledge of IP legal issues, including trademark and copyright protection, brand enforcement, customs enforcement, technology licensing, artificial intelligence, and content moderation, is essential. Experience counseling on platform liability in the tech industry is also important. The successful candidate will possess strong business-oriented judgment, the ability to analyze problems and propose solutions, and the capacity to work well with a growing team while managing a diverse and complex workload.
