Intern, CAE Engineer, Summer 2026
The Crash CAE Intern will support the Vehicle Safety and Structural Engineering teams by assisting in the development, simulation, and optimization of vehicle crashworthiness performance. This role focuses on running crash simulations, preparing high-quality finite element models, analyzing results, and helping integrate AI-driven methods into the CAE workflow. The intern will work closely with senior CAE engineers, test engineering, and cross-functional design teams to accelerate the development of safe, lightweight, high-performance electric vehicles.
Key responsibilities include building and preprocessing finite element models using ANSA/HyperMesh, running LS-DYNA simulations for various crash scenarios, post-processing and interpreting crash results, supporting CAE-to-test correlation activities, automating CAE workflows using Python or MATLAB, assisting with surrogate modeling and early-stage optimization studies, and documenting results for engineering reviews. The intern will gain experience with full-vehicle crash CAE for electric vehicle platforms, lightweight structures, and AI-enabled CAE workflows, while receiving mentorship from experienced crash engineers.
Required qualifications include experience with LS-DYNA crash simulations, proficiency in ANSA and/or HyperMesh, basic CAE automation skills using Python or MATLAB, an interest in machine learning, surrogate modeling, or inverse design, and strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
