In-House Counsel
Gore Mutual Insurance is seeking an In-House Counsel to join our expanding legal team. This role involves providing legal advice and developing strategies to drive Casualty and Accident Benefit files to timely resolution, working closely with claims adjusters, clients, and the Team Leaders/Director, Legal. Key responsibilities include managing a caseload of over 50 files, handling all aspects from initial assignment through to examinations for discovery, mediations, pre-trials, trials, and settlements. The In-House Counsel will ensure legal compliance by adhering to national, provincial, and municipal laws and regulations, and will provide proactive insights to identify opportunities for technical excellence. Additionally, the role involves fostering positive relationships with support staff and contributing to process improvements within the legal department.
The ideal candidate will possess an undergraduate degree, J.D. or LL.B., and be called to the bar in Ontario. A minimum of 3-8 years of litigation experience is required, with proficiency in handling claims disputes through litigation, mediation, and trials. Strong organizational skills, excellent judgment, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment are essential. Legal research skills and proficiency with digital legal research resources are also necessary.
Gore Mutual offers a comprehensive total rewards package, including extended health and dental benefits, disability insurance, retirement plan matching, paid time off, and recognition programs. The expected base salary range for this position is $97,500 - $147,500, with potential for additional earnings through our discretionary bonus program, contingent upon business performance and individual goals.
