Head of US Public Policy and Government Relations
Block is seeking a seasoned, strategic leader to serve as Head of US Public Policy and Government Relations. This senior role operates at the intersection of technology, financial services, and public advocacy, requiring deep policy expertise and the ability to articulate Block’s mission of economic empowerment. Reporting to the Chief Legal Officer, the position involves overseeing a team and driving cross-functional efforts supporting Block’s portfolio of brands, including Square, Cash App, Afterpay, Tidal, Bitkey, Proto, and AI initiatives.
The Head of US Public Policy and Government Relations will cultivate and guide Block’s public policy and government relations strategy across the United States. Responsibilities include identifying and prioritizing legislative and regulatory developments affecting Block's ecosystem—spanning payments, banking, digital assets, consumer protection, and financial inclusion—and positioning Block to influence them early. The role also involves developing thought leadership content, policy papers, and advocacy materials that articulate Block's distinctive perspective on financial inclusion and the future of digital finance.
Key qualifications for this role include a minimum of 15 years of public policy experience, preferably within the US government and the financial services and technology sectors. Candidates should have at least 10 years of experience managing teams of policy professionals, including team budgeting, strategic planning, and career development. A strong background in advocacy and public policy development related to global financial services issues is essential, along with strategic thinking, sound political instincts, and the ability to build and maintain trusted relationships with senior policymakers and government officials.
