The Group Technology Counsel at ITW serves as the principal attorney for intellectual property matters across one or more of the company's segments. This role involves close collaboration with divisions to understand their businesses, products, and markets, ensuring that IP strategies align with organizational goals. ITW, a Fortune 300 global multi-industry manufacturing leader, operates in 51 countries and is headquartered in Glenview, Illinois.

Key responsibilities include managing a diverse, worldwide IP portfolio, overseeing the preparation and prosecution of patent and trademark applications, and securing copyrights, trade secrets, and domains. The counsel will partner closely with engineering and product teams to identify and capture new inventions, assess competitor IP landscapes, and lead IP litigation efforts, including risk assessment, strategy development, and settlement negotiations.

Candidates must possess a JD degree from an ABA-accredited law school, admission to the Illinois state bar, and registration as a patent attorney with the USPTO. A degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field is required, along with a minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in intellectual property law, preferably with both law firm and in-house backgrounds. Expertise in U.S. and foreign patent and trademark preparation, client counseling, contract negotiation, due diligence, trade secret protection, and IP litigation is essential.

The compensation package offers a competitive base salary ranging from $230,000 to $260,000 annually, with eligibility for participation in the annual incentive plan.
