Front-End Engineer
Monks is seeking a deeply technical and innovative Front-End Engineer to join a specialized team responsible for the architectural migration of high-visibility marketing pages for a major global technology client. In this role, you will transition from a legacy static HTML environment to a modern, scalable React-based architecture with Server-Side Rendering (SSR). You will collaborate closely with Design and Engineering leads to build data-driven, atomic UI components that consume structured content from a proprietary Headless CMS. This position requires comfort working in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.
Key responsibilities include designing and building a library of shared, atomic, and composable UI components using React and TypeScript, ensuring accessibility and responsiveness across all viewports. You will develop components that programmatically consume JSON data from the API, decoupling content from presentation, and work with JSON schemas to validate data structures. Leading the migration of existing pages from legacy builds to the new data-driven architecture is a critical aspect of this role. Additionally, you will create and maintain comprehensive documentation for components using Storybook, manage package publishing via advanced NPM/Artifactory workflows, and ensure strict adherence to WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards and SEO technical requirements. Collaboration with QA to resolve defects within a 24-hour SLA and working closely with designers to ensure technical feasibility early in the process are also essential.
The ideal candidate will have senior-level mastery of React (including Lifecycles, Hooks, Custom Hooks) and TypeScript (with strong typing and Interfaces). Proven production experience with Server-Side Rendering frameworks such as Next.js or Remix is required. Deep expertise in Utility-first CSS (Tailwind) or CSS Modules to create modular, non-conflicting styles is essential. Experience working with Headless CMS platforms like Strapi, Contentful, or Sanity, and a solid understanding of consuming and validating JSON Schemas are necessary. The ability to write and maintain robust unit tests using Jest and React Testing Library, proficiency with Storybook for component development and documentation, and experience with Git workflows are also required. A strong ability to translate designs from Figma or Sketch into code with high fidelity is crucial.
