As a Financial Analyst at Canonical, you will be an integral member of the Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) team, contributing to monthly business reviews, quarterly forecasting, annual planning, and financial modeling. This role is pivotal in driving cross-functional business alignment within a globally distributed, remote-first company renowned for publishing Ubuntu, a leading open-source platform for AI, IoT, and cloud computing.

Your primary responsibilities will include generating insights into business operations by analyzing unit economics, variance drivers, and key performance indicators. You will support quarterly and annual financial planning, forecasting, reporting, and monthly budget reviews. Additionally, you will provide analyses of commercial initiatives with strategic or financial impacts and create objective analyses and processes to help the company scale efficiently and make data-driven decisions. Supporting multi-functional change projects designed to enhance systems, processes, and data accuracy, as well as partnering with key stakeholders to communicate business progress against financial and strategic targets, will also be part of your role.

The ideal candidate will have an exceptional academic track record from both high school and university, demonstrating a drive and history of exceeding expectations. Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities, excellent presentation and communication skills, and a curiosity and willingness to work on a wide range of projects are essential. Proficiency in spreadsheets and financial modeling, an understanding of core accounting principles, and professional written and spoken English are required. Excellent interpersonal skills, flexibility, accountability, passion, thoughtfulness, self-motivation, and a result-oriented mindset with a personal drive to meet commitments are also important. The ability to travel twice a year for company events up to two weeks long and previous experience in an analytically focused finance or business role are necessary.

Additional qualifications that would be advantageous include a bachelor's degree in finance, business, or a related field, experience with Business Intelligence reporting, CRM and ERP systems, and experience with budgeting and planning software or data visualization tools.

Canonical offers a distributed work environment with twice-yearly in-person team sprints, a personal learning and development budget of USD 2,000 per year, annual compensation reviews, recognition rewards, annual holiday leave, maternity and paternity leave, a Team Member Assistance Program and Wellness Platform, opportunities to travel to new locations to meet colleagues, and Priority Pass and travel upgrades for long-haul company events. Compensation is shaped by geographical location, experience, and performance, with annual reviews to recognize outstanding performance. In addition to base pay, a performance-driven annual bonus or commission is offered, along with additional benefits reflecting the company's values and ideals, balanced to meet local needs and ensure global fairness.
