Field-Deployed Software Engineering Intern – Fall 2026 / Spring 2027
GITAI is a vertically integrated space and defense company specializing in the development of hardware for low-Earth-orbit missions. The Field-Deployed Software Engineering Intern role offers an opportunity to engage directly with robotic and space systems, contributing to both software development and hardware integration. This position is based in Los Angeles, California, with regular deployments to outdoor test sites in the desert region near the city.
In this role, interns will support weekly field testing, including system setup, data acquisition, and troubleshooting. They will develop and debug software for robotics, computer vision, and guidance, navigation, and control (GNC) systems. Additionally, interns will diagnose issues across software and hardware components, build tools for data collection and test automation, and document test configurations and findings.
Candidates should be pursuing or have recently completed a BS or MS in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field. A minimum of one year of hands-on experience in a robotics team, research lab, or similar environment is required. Proficiency in Python or C++, experience with Linux, and strong debugging skills are essential. U.S. citizenship is required due to potential support for U.S. Government programs.
The compensation for this part-time, temporary position ranges from $28 to $40 per hour, depending on academic level and relevant experience. Typical work hours are Monday to Friday, approximately 9:00 am to 6:00 pm, with flexibility based on mission schedules.
GITAI fosters a collaborative environment where electrical, mechanical, software, manufacturing, integration, and test teams work closely together. This vertical integration allows for rapid development and direct learning from hardware, providing interns with comprehensive exposure to the development process.
