Family Law & Victim Rights Paralegal
Pine Tree Legal Assistance (PTLA) is seeking a dedicated Family Law & Victim Rights Paralegal to join their Family Law and Victim Rights Unit. This team provides statewide civil legal services to survivors of sexual assault and, in many areas, to survivors of domestic violence. The role is based in either the Augusta or Portland office, with a preference for in-person or hybrid work schedules.
As a Family Law & Victim Rights Paralegal, you will be responsible for assisting attorneys in handling cases related to protection from abuse, divorce, parental rights (custody), and education advocacy under Title IX. Your duties will include conducting client interviews, preparing and filing legal documents, coordinating court appearances, and maintaining detailed case files. You will also perform legal research, gather pertinent case law and statutes, and communicate with clients regarding case updates.
The ideal candidate should have a bachelor's degree in Paralegal Studies or a related field, with certification from an accredited paralegal program. Previous experience in family law or a similar legal field is preferred. Strong knowledge of family law procedures and documentation, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and proficiency in legal research databases and case management software are essential. A compassionate and empathetic approach to client interaction, along with the ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines, is crucial.
PTLA offers a supportive work environment with opportunities for professional growth. As a mission-driven organization, PTLA is committed to expanding access to justice for low-income individuals and families. Joining PTLA means becoming part of a team dedicated to making a positive impact in the lives of those facing complex legal challenges.
