Oklo is seeking a Facility Design Engineer to join its fuel recycling engineering team, focusing on developing the balance-of-plant design for a commercial-scale Used Nuclear Fuel (UNF) recycling facility. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams, including process equipment design, chemical and electrochemical engineering, instrumentation and controls, software engineering, quality assurance, and licensing, as well as interacting with external architectural and engineering firms supporting facility development.

Key responsibilities include developing facility layouts, workflows, and infrastructure plans to optimize efficiency, safety, security, and compliance. The engineer will define specifications, performance criteria, and requirements for facility process support equipment, such as mechanical systems (pumps, heat exchangers, piping, valves), electrical systems (transformers, switchgear, high-power DC rectifiers), instrumentation and controls (SCADA, DCS, instrumentation sensors, emergency shutdown systems), backup power generation (generators, fuel tanks, uninterruptible power supplies), HVAC and ventilation, and water and waste systems. Additionally, the role involves interacting with and managing partner architectural and engineering firms, overseeing project management related to facility design, creating and/or overseeing building drawings (architectural, P&ID, pipe routing), establishing maintenance and reliability processes and procedures, and generating maintenance and reliability documentation for regulatory filings.

The ideal candidate will have 5-10+ years of experience in facility design, construction, and/or industrial engineering, with an engineering education in mechanical, chemical, civil, or structural disciplines. Experience working with large-scale manufacturing or chemical process facilities design or operation, project management and vendor management experience, proficiency in 2D and 3D CAD software, broad familiarity with engineering principles, strong systems engineering intuition, experience with balance-of-plant facility design, and knowledge of engineering drawing types utilized for large-scale facilities are essential.

Oklo offers a competitive salary range of $100,000 to $150,000, along with flexible time off, equity, 401(k), health insurance, FSA, flexible work hours, and other benefits. Remote employees are required to travel to headquarters in Santa Clara, CA, twice a quarter annually, based on business or team needs, including attendance at team meetings, off-sites, and other company events or gatherings.
