Estate & Tax Planning Legal Counsel
The Dalio Family Office (DFO) is seeking a mid-level Estate & Tax Planning Legal Counsel to join their Estate and Tax Planning (ETP) Pillar in Westport, Connecticut. This role involves collaborating with the Pillar Head to develop and implement sophisticated estate and tax planning strategies for family members, trusts, and related entities. The ETP Pillar is dedicated to delivering innovative solutions that support the Dalio family's financial, philanthropic, and personal objectives.
Key responsibilities include ensuring that each family member has up-to-date estate planning documents, leading the administration of estate planning strategies such as annual gifts and GRATs, and managing the planning for significant life events like births and marriages. The Legal Counsel will also liaise with external counsel and advisors to develop and implement a diverse portfolio of estate and tax planning projects, prepare project charters, manage risks, and provide regular status updates to Pillar leadership. Additionally, the role involves serving on cross-disciplinary teams for special projects, managing a library of summaries of significant estate documents, and monitoring changes in relevant laws and regulations to advise internal teams accordingly.
Candidates should possess a Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school and be admitted to practice law in one or more states. A minimum of seven years of experience in sophisticated estate and tax planning, particularly for ultra-high-net-worth individuals, is required. Strong understanding of estate, gift, and income tax principles, trust law, and entity structures is essential. Experience in drafting complex wills and trusts, preparing client presentations, tax calculations, and administering estates from probate through closing is necessary. The ideal candidate will be inquisitive, proactive in identifying legal issues and risks, and possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Compensation for this role includes a competitive salary ranging from $300,000 to $385,000, inclusive of a merit-based bonus.
