Canonical is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Ubuntu Hardware Certification Quality Engineering team. This team is responsible for developing and maintaining test suites that validate hardware compatibility with Ubuntu Linux across Core, Desktop, and Server editions. The role is based in Taipei's Minsheng district, Taiwan, and involves collaboration with silicon companies, OEMs, ODMs, and internal teams to ensure a seamless and secure Ubuntu experience on a wide range of devices.

The Engineering Manager will oversee the development and maintenance of Canonical's hardware certification test suite, manage the timely delivery of certifications, and work collaboratively to continuously improve test practices and tools. Responsibilities include building and leading a globally distributed team of engineers, developing talent through coaching and mentoring, setting and managing expectations with stakeholders, and participating in engineering processes such as code and architectural reviews. The role also requires engagement with internal teams, the open-source community, and commercial partners, with international travel twice per year for company events lasting up to two weeks.

Candidates should possess knowledge of low-level embedded software and hardware, including BIOS, firmware, bootloaders, ACPI, device trees, kernels, and RTOS. A solid understanding of Linux system architecture, quality and reliability-oriented engineering practices, and experience with Linux (preferably Debian or Ubuntu) are essential. An undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field is required. The ideal candidate will demonstrate leadership and commitment to skills development, confidence in communication, a track record of delivering high-quality software, and a passion for technology evidenced by personal projects and initiatives. Excellent interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, and accountability are also important.
