Engineering Manager - Ubuntu Core
Canonical is seeking a technical engineering manager to lead the development of Ubuntu Core, the company's secure and reliable operating system tailored for IoT devices. This role involves guiding a distributed team of software developers to design and implement system software across various CPU architectures, including ARM, RISC-V, and X86. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to influence the culture, facilitate technical delivery, and collaborate on strategy and execution within a globally distributed company.
Key responsibilities include building and leading a team of engineers through hiring, coaching, mentoring, and career development. The manager will directly contribute to the team's goals by demonstrating sound engineering principles and will be responsible for setting and managing expectations with other engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders. Additionally, the role involves advocating for modern, agile software development practices and contributing to a collaborative engineering culture aligned with company values.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated competencies in embedded software development, strong skills in Golang, C++, and Shell, and a solid understanding of Linux, preferably Debian or Ubuntu. A passion for developing and growing people, along with a track record of planning and executing high-quality software delivery in a timely manner, is essential. Experience working in an agile development environment and exceptional academic credentials are also required.
