Engineering Manager (FE) - Team Expansion
The Engineering Manager (FE) - Team Expansion role at Canva focuses on leading a team within the Admin Experience Group, dedicated to enhancing how large teams utilize and manage Canva. This group aims to develop features that provide users with flexible configuration and robust team management capabilities, catering to a diverse customer base from educational institutions to corporate environments. The team thrives on collaborative problem-solving and innovative idea generation to shape the way organizations interact with Canva.
Key responsibilities include leading and coaching a motivated team of 4-6 engineers, breaking down and delivering large projects, and mentoring team members on technical approaches. The role also involves being accountable for the operation of services, including participating in on-call support as part of the team roster. Additionally, the Engineering Manager will work with senior team members to guide the technical vision, support team growth through feedback and reviews, and take responsibility for the code that the team ships. Designing, developing, and deploying solutions in close collaboration with leads, designers, and product managers is also a key aspect of the role.
The ideal candidate will have experience leading a team of software engineers, building high-performing and collaborative teams. They should possess a healthy balance of delivery leadership, people leadership, and technical skills, along with a strong customer focus to understand the use cases and requirements of Canva's diverse user base. The ability to lead by example, promoting Canva’s values and engineering principles, is essential. Experience working cross-functionally with Product Managers, Designers, and other business functions outside of engineering is also required.
