The Engineering Director, Devices Software Engineering at Canonical leads the strategy and team responsible for hardware enablement quality assurance and testing of Ubuntu across various architectures. This role is pivotal in transforming Linux certification processes to ensure long-term OS stability on PC, server, and IoT hardware. Key responsibilities include managing and mentoring software engineering teams focused on hardware enablement quality assurance and testing. The director will oversee the development and implementation of quality processes for hardware certification and continuous testing across multiple hardware platforms. This involves enhancing automated testing capabilities, executing manual and automated tests on Ubuntu hardware, and collaborating with development teams to build efficient automated testing processes. Additionally, the role requires establishing proactive measures to improve the quality and reliability of Ubuntu, managing testing schedules, and coordinating with stakeholders to align on hardware certification and quality goals.

The ideal candidate will have an outstanding Linux-based software engineering track record, preferably with low-level embedded experience. An undergraduate degree in a technical subject or a compelling narrative about an alternative chosen path is required. The candidate should demonstrate confidence in exchanging feedback and sharing ideas, a track record of exceeding expectations, leadership experience with a history of developing and growing people, and strong organizational skills to ensure timely, high-quality results. Management experience with the confidence to set high expectations, a passion for technology evidenced by personal projects, and professional written and spoken English with excellent presentation skills are also essential.
