Ice Miller is seeking an associate to join our Energy and Utilities Group in Indianapolis. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with experienced attorneys on a broad range of energy and utility matters, including regulatory, transactional, and administrative proceedings, while developing practical skills in a collaborative, client-focused environment.

In this position, you will collaborate with a small, close-knit team of talented attorneys and professional staff. You will work within a sophisticated practice advising investor-owned utilities, municipal utilities, and local governments. Your responsibilities will include supporting matters involving gas, electric, steam, water, and wastewater utilities across various regulatory proceedings, including appearances before the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC), Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO), and other public utility commissions. You will engage in a mix of regulatory, transactional, and administrative matters with increasing levels of responsibility and participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities designed to support your growth.

The ideal candidate will have two to four years of legal experience, including at least one year or more of experience in the public or private sector with exposure to any of the following areas of practice: energy law; utility regulatory law; other government-regulated industries; administrative and/or civil litigation; and/or contract law. Experience practicing before the IURC, PUCO, and/or the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) is preferred but not required. Candidates should possess excellent written and oral communication skills, be highly motivated, self-directed, and able to manage multiple priorities, and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic setting. A J.D. from an accredited law school with strong academic credentials is required, along with licensure and good standing to practice law in Indiana or eligibility to become licensed in Indiana. Permanent authorization to work in the United States is also required.
