Embedded Linux Consultant - Japan
Canonical is seeking an Embedded Linux Consultant to join its Devices/IoT team, focusing on expanding the company's presence in mission-critical industries such as automotive, medical devices, industrial systems, robotics, and telecommunications. This role offers the opportunity to work remotely from Japan, preferably in the Tokyo or Osaka area, and involves engaging with a diverse range of clients to deliver innovative embedded Linux solutions.
The primary responsibilities include engaging with customers during the presales phase to gather requirements and explain Canonical's technology offerings. The consultant will elaborate on solutions tailored to prospective clients, participate in the delivery of select projects related to embedded Linux, and convey market requirements to key stakeholders within the organization. Additionally, acting as both a customer advocate and a trusted advisor to Canonical is a crucial aspect of the role.
Candidates should possess a bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, along with extensive Linux experience, preferably with Debian or Ubuntu. Solid embedded Linux experience with tools such as Yocto or Buildroot, or experience with RTOS, is essential. Proficiency in at least one programming language—Golang, Python, C, C++, or Rust—is required. Professional written and spoken English, in addition to the local language, is necessary, along with excellent communication and presentation skills. The role requires a result-oriented mindset, the ability to multitask, and a personal drive to meet commitments. A willingness to travel up to 30% of the time for customer meetings, company events, and conferences is also expected.
Canonical offers a distributed work environment with twice-yearly in-person team sprints, a personal learning and development budget of USD 2,000 per year, annual compensation reviews, recognition rewards, annual holiday leave, maternity and paternity leave, and an Employee Assistance Programme. There are also opportunities to travel to new locations to meet colleagues, along with Priority Pass and travel upgrades for long-haul company events.
Joining Canonical means becoming part of a pioneering tech firm at the forefront of the global move to open source. As the publisher of Ubuntu, one of the most important open-source projects and a platform for AI, IoT, and the cloud, Canonical is changing the world of software. The company fosters a workplace free from discrimination, valuing diversity of experience, perspectives, and background to create a better work environment and better products.
