The Disability Advocacy Program (DAP)/Elder Law Paralegal at LawNY® plays a crucial role in supporting attorneys who assist clients with disabilities and elder law issues. LawNY® is a not-for-profit law firm dedicated to providing free civil legal services to low-income individuals across Western New York. The paralegal will be part of a team committed to advocating for vulnerable populations, ensuring they receive the legal support necessary to navigate complex systems.

Key responsibilities include conducting client intakes, gathering and organizing financial and medical records, and assisting in the preparation and submission of applications for benefits such as Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI). The paralegal will also draft legal documents, maintain client files, and coordinate with various agencies and stakeholders to support clients' cases. Additionally, the role involves participating in community outreach and education initiatives to inform the public about available services and resources.

The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor's degree or paralegal certificate, along with experience in disability advocacy or elder law. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently are essential. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required, as is proficiency in Microsoft Office and case management software.
