Detection Engineer
Upstart is seeking a Detection Engineer to join its Information Security team, which is dedicated to securing the company's AI-driven lending platform. This role involves designing security alerts and automated response playbooks to protect Upstart's corporate and product infrastructure. The position is available remotely, with options to work from offices in San Mateo, Columbus, Austin, or New York City.
The Detection Engineer will be responsible for developing and implementing security alerts and automated response playbooks. Key duties include collaborating with system owners to integrate new log feeds for security monitoring, building automated tests to ensure the effectiveness of detection methods, and developing integrations between Security Orchestration, Automation, and Response (SOAR) tools and APIs. Additionally, the role involves actively participating in incident response efforts to investigate and mitigate security issues.
Candidates should have at least one year of experience in detection engineering or incident response roles. Essential skills include proficiency in constructing robust log search queries, intermediate knowledge of a programming language (preferably Python), and strong experience with Git, including tasks like rebasing. An "assume breach" mindset, characterized by thorough investigative follow-through, is also crucial. Preferred qualifications encompass experience with AWS and infrastructure-as-code resource management, OSX endpoint investigation, internal application development, SaaS application security, high-security environments, and threat intelligence management.
The anticipated base salary for this position ranges from $111,900 to $155,000 annually, depending on geographic location and individual qualifications.
