Design Engineer
Lightning AI is seeking a Senior Design Engineer to bridge the gap between design prototypes and production code. This role is pivotal in translating high-fidelity product visions into scalable, production-grade user experiences across the Lightning platform. The position is based in New York City with a hybrid work model.
The Senior Design Engineer will build production-grade user interfaces using React and TypeScript, directly translating detailed product designs into code. Responsibilities include evolving Lightning's React component library to enhance consistency and performance, making front-end architectural decisions to support scalability, and collaborating closely with product design and engineering teams to deliver polished features. The role also involves identifying and reducing UX and frontend complexities, improving performance and accessibility, and establishing best practices for design-to-code workflows.
Candidates should have over five years of experience in developing high-quality frontend applications in production settings. Deep expertise in React, TypeScript, and modern frontend architectures is essential. A strong sense of product and design, with attention to interaction quality and usability, is required. Experience in managing or significantly contributing to a design system or component library, proficiency in Figma and contemporary design tools, and a proven track record of enhancing frontend quality and performance are also necessary. The ability to thrive in fast-paced, ambiguous startup environments and strong communication skills for cross-functional collaboration are important.
The anticipated salary range for this role is $160,000 to $200,000. Lightning AI offers competitive base salaries and equity, with a 25% one-year cliff and monthly vesting thereafter.
