CTO/ Head of Engineering (robotic endoscopy)
AIDO is seeking a hands-on Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and Head of Engineering to lead the end-to-end development of its innovative robotic endoscopy assistant. This role involves establishing the company's engineering foundation and driving the technical roadmap as AIDO transitions from prototype to clinical-grade medical device. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with suppliers, clinicians, and the CEO to bring a safe, intuitive, and robust device to market.
Key responsibilities include leading the design, development, and validation of the electromechanical endoscopy-assist device, translating physician feedback into ergonomic and intuitive product improvements. The role also encompasses building and implementing the Quality Management System (ISO 13485), guiding EU and US regulatory strategies, managing external suppliers while fostering internal engineering expertise, driving the verification and validation plan for CE marking and future 510(k) pathways, strengthening the company's intellectual property position, supporting fundraising efforts with technical expertise, and building and leading AIDO’s engineering team over time.
The ideal candidate will have approximately 10 years of experience in medical devices, robotics, or electromechanical systems, with a proven track record of bringing hardware-based medical devices from prototype to clinical or commercial launch. Strong hands-on engineering abilities in mechanical or electromechanical systems are essential, along with a solid understanding of ISO 13485, CE marking, verification and validation processes, and ideally 510(k) procedures. Sensitivity to usability and clinical workflow constraints, comfort working in early-stage environments with high ownership and autonomy, and excellent communication skills with clinicians, engineers, and investors are also required. Experience in endoscopy, surgical robotics, imaging, and/or AI is a strong plus.
The compensation package includes a market-competitive salary for early-stage startups, complemented by a performance bonus and milestone-based equity. The role requires a full-time commitment, with the ability to commute two days per week to Paris or Strasbourg, France.
AIDO fosters a collaborative, open, and impact-driven culture where team members' ideas and contributions are highly valued. As the company enters a pivotal phase of growth, this role offers significant opportunities for professional development, including building and leading the engineering team, contributing to technology strategy, and shaping future AI-enabled capabilities.
