This role is integral to ensuring the company's compliance with employment laws and supporting its dynamic workforce. The position is based in Columbia, South Carolina, and requires a commitment to in-person collaboration.
As a trusted legal advisor, the Counsel will provide guidance on a broad spectrum of employment matters, including Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) compliance, wage and hour laws, leave management, workplace safety, and business immigration. Responsibilities encompass drafting and updating company policies, conducting training sessions for management and staff, and staying abreast of evolving labor laws to proactively address potential risks. The role also involves assisting with employment-related disputes, administrative investigations, and litigation support.
Candidates should possess a Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-approved law school and be an active member in good standing of the Bar, preferably in South Carolina or North Carolina. A minimum of eight years of experience in labor and employment law is required, with in-house experience being advantageous. A comprehensive understanding of federal and state employment laws, including Title VII, ADA, ADEA, FMLA, FLSA, and NLRA, is essential. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, the ability to collaborate effectively with management and Human Resources, and a proactive approach to risk mitigation.
