As Marqeta's Counsel, International Product & Regulatory, you will play a pivotal role in advancing our vision of modern money movement. This position is integral to our international legal team, focusing on complex legal and regulatory issues associated with financial and payment products across various jurisdictions, including Canada and the European Economic Area (EEA). The role requires a proactive and collaborative approach to managing risk and ensuring compliance in a dynamic, cross-functional environment.

Your primary responsibilities will include providing legal advice on payment laws, financial services regulations, data privacy, consumer protection, and enforcement actions for existing products and new features in covered jurisdictions. You will assess legal risks, recommend mitigation strategies, and collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders—including product, engineering, risk, and go-to-market teams—to maintain the integrity of our financial platform. Additionally, you will develop strategies for monitoring and analyzing new international laws and regulations, ensuring our products comply with applicable international standards.

The ideal candidate is a licensed attorney with over five years of experience practicing in-house in fintech or banking, or at a reputable law firm, with a focus on prepaid, debit, and/or payments work. A solid understanding of the international payments industry, including the laws, rules, and regulations related to banks and participants in the payments ecosystem, is essential. Strong analytical and communication skills, the ability to independently drive complex projects to completion, and a commitment to excellence are key attributes for success in this role.

Marqeta offers a competitive compensation package, with a base salary range of CAD 132,300 to 165,400, along with annual bonuses for eligible employees. Benefits include multiple health insurance options, flexible vacation time, a retirement savings program with company contribution, equity in a publicly-traded company, and a monthly stipend to support our remote work model. We are committed to supporting our employees' growth and development through annual "development dollars" and other resources.

At Marqeta, we foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and inclusivity. We believe in empowering our employees to take ownership of their work and provide opportunities for professional growth. Joining our team means being part of a forward-thinking company that values diversity and is dedicated to making a positive impact in the payments industry.
