As a Core Mechanical Design Engineer at Oklo, you will be responsible for designing core assemblies and components for our advanced reactors. You will take designs from conceptual to final stages, collaborating with the Fuel Fabrication team to enhance manufacturability and inspectability. Your role includes creating comprehensive documentation such as drawings, product and material specifications, design basis documents, and calculation documents.

Key responsibilities include developing component designs that meet performance and manufacturing requirements, creating design documentation to define requirements, conducting and participating in design reviews, evaluating mechanical designs to identify and address deficiencies, generating and maintaining detailed 3D CAD models and 2D drawings, coordinating with analysis teams for design validation, performing manufacturability reviews and tolerance studies, and contributing to the continuous improvement of Oklo’s mechanical design processes and standards.

The ideal candidate will have 5-10 years of experience in mechanical or structural design within sectors such as aerospace, automotive, energy, or industrial equipment. A Bachelor’s or higher degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline is required. Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling software (e.g., Siemens NX, CATIA, SolidWorks), experience with CAD version control using PDM/PLM tools, a solid understanding of mechanical design principles including DFM and DFA, and the ability to apply GD&T per ASME Y14.5-2018 are essential. Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate on cross-functional teams are also important.

Oklo offers a competitive salary range of $115,000 to $170,000, flexible time off, equity, 401(k), health insurance, FSA, flexible work hours, and other benefits. Remote employees are required to travel to headquarters in Santa Clara, CA, twice a quarter, with the first two weeks of onboarding conducted in person.
