Commercial Counsel - Procurement
As a Commercial Counsel at xAI, you will play a pivotal role in supporting procurement efforts by negotiating high-value deals for software, SaaS, hardware, infrastructure, services, and more. Collaborating closely with the Data Center and Procurement Lead, you'll navigate complex agreements, ensure compliance, and streamline processes in a dynamic environment. This position is based in Palo Alto, California.
Your key responsibilities will include drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a diverse range of commercial agreements, such as vendor contracts for software, SaaS, professional services, corporate services, equipment, data licenses, and NDAs. You'll work closely with engineering, finance, and operations teams to align contracts with business needs. Additionally, you'll create processes, templates, and playbooks, and support the deployment of systems for efficient and scalable contracting. Flexibility and responsiveness are essential, as you'll be expected to contribute to various tasks within the Legal department, even those outside your immediate expertise.
To be considered, you should have 5-10 years of legal experience, ideally gained through a combination of roles at innovative technology companies and/or reputable law firms. Experience in commercial contracting, with a focus on procurement in technology or infrastructure sectors, is essential. A proven track record of negotiating complex deals for software, SaaS, hardware, data licenses, capital equipment, or AI-related technologies is required. Being tech-savvy, with an understanding or keen interest in data centers and emerging technologies like AI, is highly beneficial. A strong sense of ownership, inquisitiveness, enthusiasm for technology, and the ability to demonstrate sound judgment in ambiguous situations are key attributes. A JD from an accredited law school and active bar membership in at least one U.S. state are mandatory.
The compensation package includes a base salary ranging from $225,000 to $285,000 USD, complemented by equity, comprehensive medical, vision, and dental coverage, access to a 401(k) retirement plan, short and long-term disability insurance, life insurance, and various other discounts and perks.
