Chief Engineer (Aerospace)
The Chief Engineer for Strategic Systems at Voyager Technologies is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing the end-to-end mission success of solid rocket propulsion system programs. This position involves managing large multidisciplinary teams, implementing complex systems engineering processes, and ensuring technical execution aligns with budgetary and schedule requirements. Reporting to the Director of Engineering, the Chief Engineer is part of the Strategic Systems department based in Reno, NV.
Key responsibilities include directing the full technical lifecycle of programs by leading cross-functional teams through design reviews and qualification milestones. The Chief Engineer ensures that final systems are producible, compliant with technical data requirements, and balanced against cost and schedule constraints. Additionally, the role involves maintaining a rigorous focus on the critical path, proactively deconflicting resources, and driving schedule performance through aggressive management of task timelines and alternative execution strategies.
Candidates must possess a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related discipline, along with 15 years of experience in solid rocket propulsion. The role requires the ability to establish and maintain lean technical scope baselines by eliminating contingency budgeting, monitoring cost performance indices to mitigate variances, and rigorously challenging budget change requests. Experience in serving as the primary technical spokesperson for programs, managing stakeholder relationships, and providing data-driven technical alternatives for collaborative decision-making is essential. U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level are required.
