BIOS Senior/Lead Software Engineer
Arista Networks is seeking a BIOS Senior/Lead Software Engineer to join our team responsible for developing and maintaining the CPU firmware, BIOS, and boot loader software across all Arista products. This role involves bringing up new CPU boards and ensuring our Extensible Operating System (EOS) boots securely, efficiently, and reliably. Additionally, the position entails designing and implementing new features to manage and secure low-level system initialization and booting subsystems, while staying abreast of developments in both open-source and proprietary BIOS communities.
Key responsibilities include designing, developing, integrating, and maintaining low-level CPU software in Arista products. The engineer will develop automated tests using C, C++, and Python to validate features, collaborate with hardware engineers and vendors to qualify new CPUs and related components, and track ongoing developments in the Linux Kernel to identify relevant features for Arista's products. The role also involves contributing to upstream open-source BIOS communities, reviewing and contributing to functional and design specifications, and providing technical leadership across features, projects, and tools.
The ideal candidate will possess a BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering with 8 years of experience, an MS with 6 years, or a Ph.D. with 3 years of experience, or equivalent work experience. Expertise in C programming is required, with knowledge of C++ and Python being desirable. Experience in designing and developing software in CPU firmware, BIOS, and boot loader environments, as well as bringing up new CPU boards, is essential. Familiarity with Linux kernel architecture and IP networking principles is desirable. Strong problem-solving skills, the ability to work independently and in small teams, and effective communication skills are also important.
Arista offers a competitive base salary ranging from $140,000 to $210,000, depending on factors such as skills, qualifications, relevant experience, and work location. In addition to base pay, certain roles may be eligible for discretionary bonuses and equity.
