At-Sea Processor - F/T Alaska Ocean
The At-Sea Processor position aboard the F/T Alaska Ocean involves converting raw fish into frozen-at-sea finished products. The Alaska Ocean operates in the Bering Sea, along the Aleutian Islands, and the coasts of Washington and Oregon. As the world's largest factory trawler, the vessel provides a challenging environment for processing seafood.
Daily responsibilities include sorting fish by species, size, and condition; operating and maintaining factory equipment; packaging, weighing, and labeling products; and loading and unloading plate freezers. Processors also participate in offloading frozen products to the warehouse and managing other supplies on the vessel. Crew members share spaces such as crew quarters, dining areas, and bathrooms.
Candidates should have a high school diploma or equivalent, with at least two years of commercial fishing experience or one year in a physically demanding role. The position requires the ability to work 16-hour shifts, seven days a week, and lift up to 50 pounds repetitively. Comfort with working in cold, wet environments and performing repetitive tasks for extended periods is essential. Applicants must be capable of boarding and exiting the vessel without assistance and adhere to all safety and quality policies.
Compensation includes free room and board, eligibility for a 401(k), and health and dental benefits upon meeting eligibility requirements. The position operates on a crew share basis, with compensation varying based on the crew's performance and the length of the fishing trip.
Working on the F/T Alaska Ocean offers a unique opportunity to be part of a dedicated team committed to producing high-quality frozen-at-sea groundfish products. The role provides exposure to the seafood processing industry and the chance to work in a dynamic and challenging environment.
