Associate Counsel, Legal Affairs
The Associate Counsel, Legal Affairs position at NBCUniversal's Universal Film division involves reviewing, analyzing, drafting, and negotiating primarily below-the-line agreements, with exposure to above-the-line talent agreements. The role includes handling acquisition and development agreements, as well as various physical production-related contracts such as location, lease, and vendor agreements. Additionally, the Associate Counsel is responsible for conducting independent chain-of-title research and managing unsolicited submissions of material for the motion picture group. The position also entails formulating and revising department drafting templates to ensure consistency and efficiency in legal documentation.
Candidates must possess a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and have at least one year of legal experience at a motion picture or television company or an entertainment law firm. Membership in the California Bar or registration as in-house counsel with the California Bar is required. The role demands excellent negotiation, drafting, and analytical skills, along with superior organizational abilities to handle and track a high-volume workload. Strong interpersonal skills are essential for effective interaction with a range of personalities and styles, enabling the establishment of effective relationships at all levels of the organization. A problem-solving approach, self-motivation, and a strong work ethic are also critical for success in this fast-paced environment.
The position offers a salary range of $120,000 to $150,000, with eligibility for bonuses. The role currently follows a hybrid schedule, requiring a minimum of four days per week in the office, with the company reserving the right to change in-office requirements at any time.
