Applications Security Engineer
LendingTree is seeking an Applications Security Engineer to join our security team, focusing on edge security and the protection of externally facing applications. This role is integral to supporting key Information Security programs, including SaaS Security Posture Management (SSPM), web application firewall (WAF) engineering, and addressing findings from external security scanning tools. The engineer will serve as a subject matter expert for web-edge controls, particularly Cloudflare, collaborating with internal teams to manage alerts, drive remediation efforts, and maintain the security posture of LendingTree’s web-facing applications and cloud services.
Key responsibilities include serving as the primary authority on WAF technologies, with deep expertise in Cloudflare, and partnering with engineering and security teams to design, implement, tune, and maintain WAF rules to protect web-facing applications. The role also involves continuously monitoring and assessing the effectiveness of cloud compliance and security tools, such as the SSPM platform, to drive measurable improvements in the overall cloud security posture. Additionally, the engineer will support the Fraud Program by researching and modeling anomalous patterns to enhance automated defenses, and work closely with internal and external stakeholders to translate complex security findings into clear, actionable guidance for non-technical audiences.
The ideal candidate will have a strong foundational knowledge of application security principles, emphasizing the protection of web-facing and edge-exposed applications. Hands-on experience with WAF technologies, including rule creation, tuning, alert triage, and false-positive reduction, is essential, with a preference for experience in Cloudflare and Azure Front Door. A working knowledge of SSPM concepts and platforms, experience in supporting or operating security monitoring and remediation programs, familiarity with external security scanning tools, and an understanding of cloud security and compliance fundamentals are also required. Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, excellent written and verbal communication abilities, and a proven capacity to collaborate effectively with engineering, product, and security teams are crucial for success in this role.
The base salary for this position ranges from $100,000 to $110,000, with eligibility for an annual performance-based bonus. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as 401(k) matching.
