The American Sign Language (ASL) - Freelance AI Trainer Project is a remote contract position aimed at enhancing AI language models through expert ASL input. Key responsibilities include engaging with AI models on real-world ASL communication scenarios, verifying linguistic accuracy and cultural appropriateness, capturing reproducible error traces, and suggesting improvements to prompt engineering and evaluation metrics. The specialist will focus on areas such as ASL-to-English translation, classifier usage, receptive and expressive skills, facial expressions, and spatial grammar.

Candidates should possess a bachelor's or master's degree in Deaf Studies, Sign Language Interpreting, Linguistics, or a related field. Additional qualifications such as RID certification, teaching experience, or involvement in community interpreting projects are advantageous. Clear, metacognitive communication skills are essential for effectively conveying insights and recommendations.

The position offers a pay rate of $70 per hour, with the exact rate determined based on experience, expertise, and geographic location. As a contractor, the specialist is expected to provide a secure computer and high-speed internet connection.
