AI Research Engineer - GPU Simulation
Helsing, a defense AI company, is seeking an AI Research Engineer specializing in GPU Simulation to join their team. The role involves developing and scaling GPU-based simulators for training reinforcement-learning agents in air autonomy. This position is available in Munich, Berlin, London, and Paris.
As an AI Research Engineer, you will be responsible for building and extending GPU-based simulators to train reinforcement-learning agents across thousands of parallel environments. Your tasks will include developing tooling for reinforcement-learning training, such as domain randomization, to enhance sim-to-real generalization. Additionally, you will work on improving the fidelity and performance of simulation models, covering aspects from flight dynamics to sensing, and support the export of trained policies and assets into downstream simulators and physical hardware. Collaboration with AI specialists and engineers to align the simulator with training needs and mission-relevant outcomes will also be a key aspect of your role.
Candidates should hold an MSc or PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Robotics, Control Engineering, or a closely related field. Solid software engineering skills are essential, with proficiency in Python and/or languages like Rust or modern C++. Experience in deploying software to production, including testing and monitoring, is required. Depth in at least one of the following areas is necessary: GPU programming, high-performance simulation, physics or flight-dynamics modeling, or navigation and control. A commitment to producing high-quality, maintainable code and contributing to the shared library and ecosystem used by the wider team is expected.
Helsing offers a competitive salary and VSOP options. Relocation support includes up to €2,500 and four weeks of temporary accommodation. A yearly learning allowance of €500/£450 is provided. Health and wellness benefits encompass gym membership and mental health support. Enhanced parental leave offers 22 weeks fully paid for primary caregivers and six weeks for secondary caregivers. A hands-on onboarding program is available, allowing you to build tooling and applications used across the company.
