Kids in Need of Defense (KIND) is a global leader in the protection of unaccompanied and separated children who are forcibly displaced from their countries of origin. Launched in 2008, KIND champions a world in which every child’s rights and well-being are protected throughout their journey to safety. 
 
Building on its extensive programming and successful model in the United States, KIND is expanding in the Americas and Europe to bring its experience to bear in working with unaccompanied and separated children. Our work focuses on addressing the legal and mental health needs of this population; building strong partnerships and engaging in training and capacity strengthening with governments, NGOs, and the private sector; and advocating for systemic and pragmatic reforms to advance the rights of unaccompanied and separated children.

Position Summary
Reporting to the Controller, the Accounting Manager plays a critical role in overseeing daily accounting operations for all KIND entities. This position is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing and reconciling journal entries and balance sheet accounts, managing monthly close activities, and ensuring compliance with GAAP, Uniform Guidance, and funder requirements.
The Accounting Manager partners closely with the Controller to maintain audit readiness, strengthen internal controls, and ensure the efficiency and integrity of accounting processes. This is a hands-on role suited to a proactive, detail-oriented accounting professional with strong nonprofit and federal award expertise.
The Accounting Manager is expected to lead with integrity, accountability, and a strong commitment to KIND’s mission and values. While this role may not have formal direct reports, it functions as a key leader within the Finance team and across the organization.
This is a remote position based from any location in the U.S.
