2026 Internship - Transportation Strategy, Metropolitan Park
The Transportation Strategy Internship at Metropolitan Park offers a 10-week summer program designed for individuals pursuing careers in transportation planning and strategy. Metropolitan Park is an $8.1 billion development project transforming 50 acres of Citi Field parking lots into a year-round sports and entertainment destination, featuring a Hard Rock Hotel, casino, live music venue, and extensive public green spaces.
Interns will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive transport demand management plan aimed at increasing mass transit usage among visitors to Citi Field. This includes liaising with stakeholders such as the MTA, LIRR, Metro North, NYCT, DOT, NYPD, rideshare providers, and transportation advocacy groups to identify and implement new programs and service models. Additionally, interns will collaborate with various divisions within the organization, including Mets Executive Leadership, Operations, Marketing, Sales, and Data Analytics.
Candidates must be currently pursuing a degree in Transportation Planning/Engineering, Urban Planning, Geography/GIS, or a related field. Proficiency in ESRI ArcGIS, Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft Office is required, along with strong data ingestion and analysis skills. A demonstrated interest in sustainable transportation, transportation demand management, multi-modal planning, or reducing auto/parking use is essential. Experience in planning for sports or stadia districts, as well as mixed-use district master planning, is advantageous. Knowledge of New York City and state government agencies, metrics, and standards is also beneficial.
Interns will have the opportunity to work alongside fellow interns and be mentored by experienced professionals. The program includes designated intern programming, volunteer opportunities, and social events to foster peer connections. Interns will gain hands-on access to best-in-class tools and resources, and develop technical, writing, and presentation skills.
